Sve: Väven är ett kulturhus i Umeå som ligger vid Umeälven och invigdes hösten 2014 – året då Umeå var en av Europas två kulturhuvudstäder. Väven inrymmer flera kulturinstitutioner som har flyttats från andra delar av staden samt några nya kulturella initiativ.
Byggkostnaderna, designen som ger en skarp kontrast till omgivande byggnader samt flytten av stadens bibliotek till den nya byggnaden orsakade mycket debatt i Umeå.
Byggnaden tilldelades Kasper Salin-priset 2014.Väven utgörs framför allt Umeå stadsbibliotek, men inrymmer även studior, ett kulturcenter för barn, teaterlokaler, salonger för Folkets Bio och Kvinnohistoriskt museum.
Eng: Located on the banks of the Ume River, Umeåʼs Väven cultural center was inaugurated in autumn 2014, during which year the city was one of Europeʼs two capitals of culture. Väven is home to several cultural institutions that were relocated from other parts of the city, as well as some new cultural initiatives.
The cost of constructing the center, its architecture, which clashes with the surrounding buildings, and the relocation of the City Library to the new building have sparked debate in Umeå.
The building was awarded the Kasper Salin Prize
in 2014. Much of Väven is devoted to the Umeå City Library, but it also houses studios, a childrenʼs cultural center, theater spaces, the Folkets Bio non-profit cinema, and the Museum of Womenʼs History.
